Chubb Rock Explains How The Lady Of Rage, Trackmasters, and Leaders Of The New School Are All Linked

Brooklyn wordsmith Chubb Rock recently spoke to Rock The Bells about the shared history between himself, The Lady of Rage, Leaders of The New School and the Trackmasters production team.

"We were at Chung King in studio a and the Leaders of The New School were in Studio B," Chubb recalled. "Lady of Rage was the receptionist at Chung King, and I came in one day and I was like, 'You're always writing in that book. What are you writing?'"

Once Rage revealed that she was writing rhymes and that she was in fact an MC, Chubb was immediately impressed after hearing the Farmville, VA rapper spit.

"She was incredible so we put her on the Finesse & Synquis album [1988's Soul Sisters], and we put her on the 'Treat Em Right' album," he said, referring to his third project, The One. Rage appeared on the track, "Bring Em Home Safely" under the moniker Rockin Robin.

"It started from there," Chubb continued. "Then we went and did The Real Roxanne album. I wrote that album — I think Tone [of Trackmasters] wrote a song or two and I wrote the rest of the album, and we just kept getting work."

Chubb Rock was recently inducted into the Washington DC-based National Hip Hop Museum along with Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, UTFO, Diamond D and Whodini. He also hosts The Chubb Rock Radio Show along with Marvin Dixon and Shay McCray which broadcasts Monday-Friday in various outlets nationwide.
